IPA 1.0

I’ve largely stayed away from this style because of its popularity and my own personal preference towards IPA.  Mainly, standards are already very high and we’re all well versed in what to look for in a good example of the style.  Previous attempts haven’t held up to (at least my own) standards.  Going into this ones I’ve been able to narrow down a few things that will be a bit different than what I’ve done in the past.  Combining a few recipes for more famous examples (Enjoy By and Heady Topper), I came up with the following:

Grain Bill:

6.5 lbs 2-Row Malt

Torst: BKNYC
Torst: BKNYC

6.5 lbs English Pale

0.25 lbs Caravienne

1.0 lbs Dextrose

Mash Temp: 148 for 90 min

Mash water volume: 8.5 gal

Hop schedule:

First wort:  2.0 oz Target

90 min: 1.0 oz Summit

15 min:  1.0 oz Green Bullet

15 min:  1.0 oz Amarillo

15 min:  1.0 oz Motueka

FO:  1.0 oz Green Bullet

FO:  1.0 oz Motueka

Whirlpool (180 degrees): 2.0 oz Citra

Yeast:  White Labs 001 with 24 hour starter on a stir plate.

O.G. 1.065

Batch size going into Primary 5.25

Fermentation Temp: 65 degrees

F.G. 1.012

Dry Hop 1:  2.0 oz Citra

Dry Hop 2:  2.0 oz Galaxy

Notes on gravity check:  Nice nose and color.  Clarity not really there (pulled from bottom).  Dry hopping and racking off the trub should prove to be a pretty decent brew.  Bittering hops are a little too high.
